Senior Software Engineer at Seat GeekJoey is honestly the best UI/UX designer I have worked with in my years of professional experience. He takes the time and effort required to truly understand what works best for the customer and has a keen sense of attention to detail. His ability to transform a complex set of product requirements and create high-fidelity wireframes that satisfy the product team, the customer, and make it incredibly simple for engineers to implement his vision is by far his greatest skill. He has helped me tremendously leading a team of engineers to create effective and visually appealing user interfaces.
Joey would be an AMAZING addition to any team, and I would wholeheartedly work with him again. I have already done it twice so far!

Director, Product Management at Revalize Software, Inc.Joey has brought a fresh look and feel to our software that truly meets the needs of our users. He quickly made himself indispensable in managing and processing input from both internal and external stakeholders. Joey methodically translates problems into solutions based on this input and encourage feedback on his designs using iterative methodology.
Additionally, Joey designed, wire framed, and created our new UI and UX nearly by himself, which required a significant amount of effort in understanding a new vertical space. He has built and maintained our component library from scratch down to atom components to facilitate not only new feature design, but also onboarding additional team members.
He always had a great attitude, and possesses all the skillsets that you would want in a highly productive team member. It has been my extreme pleasure having him on our product team!

Design Director - Design Systems, Enterprise DesignThe design internship program at Gannett Product is a very competitive one. We receive many applications and typically only hire 2 or 3 designers on as summer interns. Joey stood out from the crowd and was an easy choice to make. His student work was very thoughtful and I was impressed with his ability to present his work and discuss process.
Our internship program is very hands on. From the first day, we put our interns to work as designers on actual projects. The ability to meet deadlines, to understand project goals and to communicate is crucial here, and Joey was able to jump right in. He contributed to some high profile projects during his time at Gannett and I was happy with how inquisitive he was and the quality of the work. There were several times where I needed Joey to stop one project to pick up work on another and he easily adapted to the changes. This can be a rare trait among even more experienced designers and I appreciated it.

Executive Director at Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)When it comes to recommendations, I have quite a bit to share about Joey—I’ve known him for over six years. We first became acquainted when Joey was my student in the media program in high school. Joey shined above his classmates with creativity, technical aptitude, and maturity. When working with him, I knew that his work in the media program was just a beginning of what would be a long, productive career.
Following Joey through college, I was proud to see the work he was doing in media. As my own career path changed and I left education to work in the nonprofit sector, I recruited Joey to come intern with my organization his senior year of college. He joined SPSP working in our graphics and web department and showed his ability to work under tight deadlines and with multiple departments. While he was just an intern, the work he produced is that of a senior digital content manager.
One of Joey’s greatest strengths is his ability to look at a product from multiple lenses. He can see the project from the backend/technical side, the aesthetic side, and the user interface, and he can see them from the ground up. His ability to combined both a “techy” and an “artist” at the same time sets him apart.
The second greatest strength Joey will bring to you is a level of consistency. Many millennials and those in “junior” positions may not be in tune with the importance of consistent workflows, style and design guides, and spec documentation. While at SPSP, Joey immediately began to create consistency standards that we had not had before. As an example, he was tasked with developing a visual identity package for one of our events, and when the process was done, he provided us with all the files at various stages of development and a very thorough style guide for implementation. Having worked with many visual artists in the past, I can assure you that no visual artist has ever been so thorough. When Joey left his internship, his replacement was able to pick up and jump right in without missing a beat.
Finally, I want to stress again the maturity that Joey brings to the table. He has professionalism and technical skills beyond his years, and at the same time, the personality that fits in with any time/department. His “can do” spirit is to be admired as is his willingness and desire to be mentored and grow. I encourage you highly to meet with Joey and examine his work. You’ll soon see the attention to detail he has in everything he does and the potential he has.
